Social Media for Dealers

YouTube Is Your Friend

There are so many ways dealers can utilize social media to promote their dealership. One outlet that is often overlooked is video. Here are three reasons why YouTube should be part of your social media goals and a key player in your social media strategy.

1. The majority of RV buyers do online research before heading into a dealership. Every day, people are surfing the web to explore options before actually heading into a store to purchase, especially on big-ticket items. If you have a video showing the features on one of your best selling campers, people are going to be more likely to come in and see it for themselves. They want to know what to expect before walking through your door.

2. YouTube is the second largest search engine after Google. This means that having a video for your dealership is just as important as having a Facebook page. When a buyer searches YouTube for a great camper, you want to make sure your name comes up. People don’t just want to see pictures of a unit, they want a virtual tour!

3. Having a video shows great customer service. You want to show people that there are friendly, knowledgeable people working at your dealership. Wouldn’t you be more willing to walk into a store if you already knew that the staff had great customer service? Having a video shows the “humanness” of your RV dealership. Video allows you make a connection with your customers before they walk into your dealership!

Making a video for your dealership can be a very easy way, to interact with customers online. When customers know what to expect before they even walk through your door, they’ll be much more likely to stop by your dealership!

The Power of a Video

One of the fastest growing social media outlets is video. Sites like YouTube and Vimeo have enourmous amounts of traffic.  YouTube is the world’s second largest search engine (Google is #1)!  For business, online video provides the opportunity to speak directly to customers and show a product up close.  Many dealers have found that giving virtual tours of their RV units helps drive traffic to their websites and dealerships.

Customers are increasingly turning to the Internet to research before they purchase any product, especially big-ticket products like RVs. That considered, producing a video for your dealership will help you connect with customers and influence their purchase decision. Online video is a powerful way to show customers why they should buy an RV from your dealership.

This week the HuebnerPetersen blog features a blog post on Blendtec, a small business who used video in a clever way.  Blendtec was able to engage customers and get them excited about an unlikely product, blenders.  Clever use of online video helped Blendtec become hit product overnight.  Check it out!

Use a little video!

Get a flip cam & shoot some dealership videos!

Video adds an extra dimension to your marketing efforts.  It allows you to talk directly to your RV customers.  Now, more than ever before, utilizing the power of video is easy as pie!  Check out this article from the AmEx OPEN forum: 5 Super Easy Ways to Promote With Video. The article has great information on what it takes to shoot video as well as ideas for video topics.  Get a flip cam and get going!

Easy ways for your RV dealership to use video:

1.  Establish a YouTube Channel

Personalize the channel and link to it on your dealership’s website.  Keep your channel up to date, post new videos on a regular basis.   Showcase interesting videos you shoot and videos made available to you by your manufacturers and suppliers (check out Jayco’s YouTube Channel here)

2.  Add video to your website

Feature a video on your website’s homepage.  You can change it out on a regular basis to keep your content fresh and to focus on current promotions.  You can take it a step further and add a “Video” tab/page to your website where you can feature a host of relevant videos.

3.  Use video in your social media efforts

If you post a new video to YouTube or your dealership’s website, tweet about it and provide the link.  Upload your videos to Facebook and build community discussions around them.

Use any material you can find!

I know, I know, it’s hard to come up with quality content for your blog/twitter feed/Facebook page/YouTube channel.  I really do know.  There’s a few ways to make it easy, but here’s the easiest trick of all! Find great content that others have put together and feature it or link to it (just make sure to give credit to the original creator).

Need an example?

In May 2010, Jayco began rolling out “Inside Jayco” web videos. Each edition will provide a in-depth and customer centric look at different core Jayco products and practices.  It’s a fun way to give customers an inside look at Jayco!  As a Jayco dealer working to connect with customers, this is great content to use on your sites!  Post the videos on your blog (YouTube provides you an “embed” code that you can paste into your blog) and then link to your post on Facebook and Twitter (you can also post the videos directly to Facebook).

The “Inside Jayco” Jay Feather video is hot off the press (or hot off the camera!) — it’s brand new and ready to share with your customers!

Jayco will be introducing new “Inside Jayco” editions throughout the summer months.  When you’re having a slow day, this is an easy way to generate some quality content!  Subscribe to Jayco’s YouTube channel and follow Jayco on Twitter or Facebook to stay up to date!

YouTube: Tips for your dealership

Using YouTube and/or other video providers can help your dealership’s online marketing efforts more be dynamic.  In order to get the most from your YouTube channel and to optimize your customers experience on your YouTube site, check out this Open Forum Article by Amy Mae Elliot. In the article she lists her top 10 YouTube tips to help you get the most out of the platform.

Tips for getting making the most out of YouTube at your RV dealership

Our top three takeaways:

1.  “Promote Your YouTube Videos Elsewhere”

Your customers will not automatically search for your dealership on YouTube.  Videos posted on other sites can be linked to your dealership’s YouTube account and will help drive traffic to your video posts.

2.   “Don’t Overlook Tags”

Tags are keywords, you determine, that are used to describe your video content and give your videos “searchability”.  The more relevant tags your content has the more easily customers can search it.

3.  “Engage With the YouTube Community”

Engaging with other YouTube users will help you distribute your own YouTube content as well as provide your customers with a glimpse of other materials and causes your dealership supports.
