Social Media & Small Business: Infographic

Social media and online interaction between dealerships and their customers is growing at an astounding rate — and the success of these endeavors is growing just as quickly. With statistics on usage, success rates and other more details being released each day, infographics are popping up all over the place to make sense of the numbers. You’ve probably seen different types of infographics in magazines, news channels and across many of your favorite websites. In case you’re not familiar with infographics, they are simply graphic representations of information (or statistics). Below is a great infographic based on how small businesses (and dealerships) are currently using social media. Here are a few key facts we’ve pulled out:

  • 51% of Facebook users are more likely to buy the brands they follow or are a fan of
  • 62% of adult US Internet users watch videos on video sharing sites
  • 61% of small business owners now use social media to attract new customers

Should my dealership use social media?

Ask yourself these marketing questions to figure out if social media is right for your dealership

Should you be integrating social media into your RV dealership’s marketing efforts?  Here’s a quick questionnaire to answer to find out (from an older, but terrific Jeff Bullas post):

In the last few months have you either professionally or personally.

1.Responded or answered to a direct mail letter or brochure? (Current research shows only 3% have responded)

2. Did you follow up on a mainstream media advertisement such as TV, Radio, Magazine or Newspaper? (22%)

3. Did you go to the Yellow Pages to look up a company to buy a product? (3%)

4. Did you Google and search online when looking to purchase a product or service? (97%)

5. Used Your Peer to Peer Network via Facebook, Instant Messenger, Twitter, LinkedIn or other Social Media to get a URL to a website  for a product that you were looking to buy? (80%)

And here is the clincher…..

6. So why are you still using marketing for your company that you yourself  have minimal response to?

Think of yourself as the consumer, as the RV buyer.  As a consumer, do you go to Google or to the Yellow Pages when you need info?  So as a marketer, should you spend money on Google (SEO, search engine marketing, social rankings) or on the phone book?

More Facebook age data.

Facebook age distribution chart

Flowtown has recently put together a graphic showing 2010 Facebook stats.  The largest age group on Facebook  is the 35-54 age group.  More reinforcement. Facebook isn’t just for kids (just a reminder), it’s a great place to for your dealership to reach out to prospects who have purchasing power!

Internet advertising is cheap.

Have you been staying away from the online realm and Internet advertising because you’re worried about cost?  Internet advertising (think banner ads, Facebook ads, landing pages, etc.) are cheaper than most traditional media.  Check out this graphic from Morgan Stanley Research:

Internet adverstising, cost per thousand

The cost per thousand impressions is much lower with Internet.  Not only is it cheap, but, it’s easy, and it’s fast.  AND, it’s not just for big business.  Internet advertising is a terrific medium for RV dealerships.  There are plenty of places for your to put a banner ad, there are tons of social media opportunities, creating a landing page can be breeze.

Keep Internet advertising in mind, it should be a part of your dealership’s marketing mix; it’s easy, accessible, cheap, and RV prospects are online.
