Social media affects everyone today whether they are actively participating it in or not. Twitter, Facebook, blogs and the likes are impacting the business of the small mom and pop dealership on the side of the highway and the big RV Superstore just outside of town. Whether or not you are inserting yourself into the conversation on popular social media sites or updating a blog, people out there are talking. Social media has the power to affect who knows about your dealership, and what their perception is of you.
Why not take an active role in the conversation and actively provide your customers accurate and constructive information? By getting involved and getting your hands dirty in social media you can have some control over the message. What you say, how your dealership is represented and how you respond to customers will all lead back to your dealership’s social media strategy as well as guide customers and potential customers in a way that meets your goals.
By staying out of the mainstream, and “keeping things simple” you may actually be hurting yourself. If people out there are talking, and you’re not aware of what they’re saying, you may be passing up opportunities that may not present themselves elsewhere. Your dealership could also be missing out on key customer service moments. Social media has played a huge part in continuing to modernize the customer service of both small and large businesses alike. If customers have complaints, the instantaneous nature of social media allows companies (like your dealership) to respond and remedy the problem quicker than in traditional methods like phone calls, emails, and snail mail correspondence.
At the end of the day the decision is yours, will you let others dictate what is said about your dealership, or will you take an active role in giving your customers what they want?
